The following are informative minutes of the January 6, 2005 meeting of the WCA Board of Directors. Please note that these minutes may not cover all of the subjects discussed or motions passed by the board. The portion of the minutes dealing with confidential attorney-client communications, personnel issues, legislative strategies, communications with legislators, communications with government employees, political contribution strategies and specific complaints or information about individual practitioners is considered confidential by the board. WCA members may obtain detailed minutes by contacting the WCA office.

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:45 a.m. by WCA President Sherry Walker, DC at the WCA building in Madison. Members absent Dr. Steele, Bronston and Bradley.

 

Motion: Moved by Sleight, seconded by McMahon to approve the minutes of the November 4, 2004 meeting. Motion carried.

 

Moved by Sleight, seconded by Douglas to approve the purchase of the vehicle currently being leased by the WCA. Motion carried.

 

2005 CE Schedule

 

The board discussed the 2005 CE schedule and noted the addition of a Diplomate in Pediatrics program to be offered in conjunction with Palmer College.

 

Government Affairs

 

The board discussed the December 22, 2004 meeting held with Governor Doyle at the Executive Mansion. The Governor continued to express his strong support for the chiropractic profession and was very interested in exchanging perspectives on current problems affecting the chiropractic profession.

 

Listening Sessions

 

The board discussed the six listening sessions that will be held that will give members the opportunity to express their views on potential legislation to be developed by the WCA. The board was encouraged to have members attend one of the sessions.

 

Chiropractic Credentials

 

The board discussed the proliferation of chiropractic credentials and the lack of uniformity in among the colleges in the standards under which the programs are operated and credentials are issued.

 

Motion: Moved by Sleight, seconded by Lefler to request that the executive director write to the states and colleges to write about the issue and to seek a consensus for a solution. Motion carried.

 

Allstate Claims

 

The board discussed the press release put out by the ACA concerning Allstate’s review of Minor Impact Soft Tissue (MIST) cases. MIST is a type of auto claim that involves a low impact accident with little, and in many cases, no damage to the car, but with medical bills presented in relation to the accident. Allstate explained that given the rise in false accident reports and staged accidents, it is necessary for the insurance company to review all aspects of low impact claims.

 

Motion: Moved by Masche, seconded by Shepherd to extend the sponsorships of the Milwaukee Brewer and Green Bay Packers with WTMJ radio. Motion carried.

 

Motion: Moved by Varish, seconded by McMahon to request the executive director write to the chiropractic examining board regarding a recommendation to revise the professional conduct rules. Motion carried.

 

Motion: Moved by Douglas, seconded by Church to request that the board consider offering Back Care Injury/Spine Stabilizations classes at its February meeting. Motion carried.
