The following are informative minutes of the May 10, 2007 meeting of the WCA Board of Directors. Please note that these minutes may not cover all of the subjects discussed or motions passed by the board. The portion of the minutes dealing with confidential attorney-client communications, personnel issues, legislative strategies, communications with legislators, communications with government employees, political contribution strategies and specific complaints or information about individual practitioners is considered confidential by the board. WCA members may obtain detailed minutes by contacting the WCA office.

 

 

Board of Directors

May 10, 2007

Minutes

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by WCA Voce-President Steve Douglas, DC at the WCA building in Madison. Member absent Dr. Walker.

 

Motion: Moved by McMahon, seconded by Lysne to approve the minutes of the April 12, 2007 meeting. Motion carried.

 

Motion: Moved by McMahon, seconded by Varish not to approve Health Solutions as an associate member. Motion carried.

 

Motion: Moved by Bronston, seconded by Adams to move into executive session. Motion carried.

Note: Much of the meeting was spent in executive session discussing the WCAC negotiations and the WCA legislation.

 

FCER

 

FCER is establishing a State of Chiropractic Research committee to deal with establishing priorities for chiropractic research.

 

Motion: Moved by Bronston, seconded by Moola for the board to serve as a committee of  the  whole “Research Committee” with Randy Adams, DC representing the board in discussions with FCER. Motion carried. Note: Dr. Adams was chosen to represent the board by acting President Steve Douglas, DC.

 

Decompression Therapy

 

The board reviewed news articles from enforcement actions around the country for chiropractors that inappropriately market decompression therapy.

 

Self Magazine

 

The board discussed the article in Self Magazine devoted to the risks of cervical adjustments.

 

PQRI

 

The board discussed this Medicare initiative that will pay providers for reporting on quality measures and encouraged the staff to write an article about “another missed opportunity for the profession”.

 

FDA Guidance

 

The board reviewed the FDA guidance on Complementary and Alternative care and determined there was no risk to chiropractors in Wisconsin practicing within their scope of practice.

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:00 p.m.
