The meeting was called to

Coalition on Aging The
board discussed the work of the Coalition on Aging and the way in which the
chiropractic profession could assist their members in attaining better health.
The board requested that staff contact the Coalition to arrange a meeting so
that we might discuss ways in which our organizations could integrate our work.
WCRI Report The board
discussed a preliminary report issued by the Worker’s Compensation Research
Institute in which the cost of WC care was compared across the country. The
report, which is used by the state’s Worker’s Compensation Advisory Council,
focused on those states that do not have mandatory cost containment measures or
pre-authorization requirements. It is very likely that the WCAC will use this
report as the basis for legislative action to force mandatory cost containment
measures on providers in
Worker’s Compensation Bill Management
and Labor have yet to agree on a final version of the bill. The disputed item
continues to be recommendations for changing the Reasonableness of Fee Dispute
Process. It is expected this will be resolved in the next 30 days.
Fall Convention It
was announced that Governor Doyle will attend the Fall Convention on Friday to
give a speech at lunch. The time of the annual meeting was changed to
Member Benefits The
board spent a considerable amount of time discussing different types of
benefits that could be added to WCA membership. Of particular interest was the
project to offer a self- insured health plan to our members. The staff is the
preliminary stages of acquiring the information the board will use to makes its
decisions.
National Legislation The WCA
has offered to host a national meeting for the ACA,
Young Doctors Program The
WCA is preparing to offer a program designed to meet the unique practice needs
of our members with 5 years of less chiropractic experience.
Unity Health Care The WCA
has filed a complaint with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance based on
Unity Insurance’s policy to restrict long term chiropractic care. The WCA has
not yet received a response from the Commissioner’s office.
